During the war, Nazi’s occupied Belgium, only to be free again thanks to the world of the Allied forces. The liberation started in September of 1944 and took six months to complete, marking an end to four years of German occupation.

In September of 1944, the Belgian government returned to power, which was celebrated by soldiers and civilians alike. In this image, Canadian soldiers celebrate the liberation with a Belgian beer, toasting to a successful mission.

Pearl Harbor marked the beginning of US involvement in the war, on 7 December 1941. Over 17 million American soldiers would eventually serve their country in WWII, and nearly half a million lost their lives in the process.
