After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, U.S troops stepped in and President Roosevelt asked Congress for their approval to join into the war. Soon, they were a major component in the efforts of the Allied forces.

Alongside Great Britain and the Soviet Union, America fought the Germans, who were allied with Italy and Japan. Pictured here is a scene showing American troops recovering after an attack on their tents, which left burn marks and holes all over.

Although Netherlands was neutral during the war, after Nazi invasion and a bombing of Rotterdam (with Dutch troops surrendering) they had no choice but to get involved in some or other way to thwart further efforts to capture territory.

High ranking Dutch officials and the Royal Family fled to London immediately, and some even made it all the way to Canada. Some of the Netherlands remained under German occupation right until May of 1945. In this photo, Dutch children show Allied soldiers how to do a traditional dance, in an unexpected moment of kindness.
