The British government had warranted fears when they assumed that the Nazis would attack with poisonous gas in the build up to the war. All citizens were required to wear respirators in a preemptive measure in case an attack happened.

These “blitz” bombing raids eventually happened, and Americans also took the same approach in anticipation of any attacks. Children wore masks that resembled popular Disney character Mickey Mouse, and interestingly, Walk himself helped with the overall design.

Australian Involvement

Australia also had a role to play in WWII, assisting the Allied forces in their efforts against the savagery of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. Part of the British Empire since 1901, the country had long been part of the British Commonwealth, so the collaboration was to be expected.
