The Nazi’s were often at the forefront of new technologies, often as a result of being wooed by engineers who wanted to ensure that their families would be taken care of in the wake of widespread fear. Not all of these weapons were successful, however.

These small tanks were designed to be controlled remotely. The problem was that they were very slow, very expensive and unreliable. At the end of the day, even Hitler had to cut his losses, and soldiers didn’t end up using them at all.

Over the course of the war, Germany ran as many as six so-called “extermination camps”. These were designed to kill Jews using gas. These camps also provided the Nazi’s with the manual labor they needed to build new machinery, in spite of the poor conditions these prisoners were kept in.

Right up until the end of the war, the Nazis were still using these tactics to get rid of Jewish people. After the Allied forces freed people, many were grateful for having avoided execution. This woman got off a train towards one of these camps, and was saved from an imminent death for her child too.
