Don’t Compare Christopher to Henry
Although the comparisons to another hermit who lived in Walden Pond were obvious, Christopher didn’t care much for the association. While there are similarities in his story and Henry David Thoreau’s, Christopher always said that he felt like Henry had ulterior motives to his own when he entered the wilderness for the first time. As he put it, Henry hadn’t gone in just for the experience, as he had done. He was very interested in whether he could do it at all.

The Importance of Solitude
Most creatives will understand how important solitude is, especially when used as a tool to reconnect with your mind, body and soul. While the word itself is someone grandiose, it applies to Christopher’s story perfectly, and started a conversation around whether people should be allowed to live in isolation should they wish to do so. Humans are connected beings, but sometimes the best experiences come from the recognition of the fact that we are all alone within ourselves on earth.
