Christopher showed commitment to the terms of his sentence, even going so far as impressing the judges he met with on a Monday by the progress he was making. He was turning into somewhat of an inspiration to others. He managed to reconnect with his family, which helped make his time in jail a little more bearable. Some argued that he would perhaps have better-living conditions in a jail cell than he had in the woods! In anticipation of him returning to the “real world”, his brother offered him a job, which he agreed to shortly before his release.

When Christopher first vanished, his family assumed he was going to be back sometime soon. His parents hadn’t even reported him missing to the authorities, knowing that he had an adventurous spirit. As time passed, they started assuming that something terrible had happened to him. Little do they know that he was out in the woods, living a life of isolation far away from anything that resembled his childhood or more recent past.
