The Long Arm of the Law

After he was caught by Sergeant Hughes, Christopher took to the stand on 28 October in 2013, six months after he was first booked. Facing thirteen charges of theft and burglary, he pleaded guilty right away. The judge ordered him to serve seven months in prison, which he served without many problems. As he had already spent some time incarcerated while awaiting trial, he didn’t have that much to go after sentencing. The terms were given considering the nature of his lifestyle, and he was ordered to meet with a judge every Monday to avoid a 7 years sentence. He also had to pay lump sums to his victims, attend a mental health program, abstain from alcohol and agree to being on probation for three years.

Sympathizing with Christopher, Judge Nancy Mills said that considering the nature of his lifestyle, he was unlikely to do more crimes in the future. Many believed he got a light sentence, especially as he had been terrorizing the community for almost three decades. There were others who felt like he was still being punished, and the conditions were severe enough to avoid him from offending again. The question now was how Christopher was going to join civilization again after jail.
