Tribute To The President
There is no doubting the fact that when the Baltimore monument was built, the world was a totally different place. The monument’s history goes quite far back in history and there are certain sources that date it all the way back to 1810. This was the time when the citizens of Baltimore had started to collect funds to construct a monument as a tribute to the country’s first president. The people of Baltimore believed that President George Washington deserved nothing but the best. This is why they contacted a renowned architect of that time, Maximilian Godefroy.

Repeated Rejections
The architect was nothing less than an expert, yet a number of his designs were rejected for the monument. As he was the best architect of that time and after so many rejections, Godefroy’s pride came into the project. Every time he submitted a plan and it got rejected, all the progress came back to square one. There was a change in plan and the members of the monument society came up with an idea to send invites for a grand competition. Anyone, from any corner of the world, could compete in it.
