The approach of “D-Day” meant that Nazi German officials, including Hitler himself, would realize that the end was in sight. They were required to fight on two fronts, making it impossible for them to emerge victoriously.

After Allied forces gained control over Cherbourg, the Germany army was forced to retreat. A victory for the Allies, yes, but also a moment that affected soldiers on both sides in a psychological way.
A New Reality
It’s well known that the Americans had little intention of joining in on WWII, even once it had already started. Their goal was to supply Britain with ammunition, but after Pearl Harbor they were left with no choice but to get more involved.
