In a bid to successfully invade France, Hitler ordered the creation of a new weapon that was strong enough to penetrate any fortresses. These defenses were the only thing holding the Nazi’s back from successfully infiltrating the allies at the time.

In an attempt to show his respect towards the Fuhrer, gun manufacturer Gustav Krupp offered machinery equipped to do so at no cost to Hitler or his army. The canon weighed almost a ton and a half and fired nearly twice an hour.

As it turns out, there were more than one of these types of unique guns offered to Hitler’s army. Dubbed “Dora”, the second was used against the Stalingrad. It had to be withdrawn after it was encircled by the Soviets, and it was eventually broken apart before the end of the war.

This incredible image shows proud U.S soldiers posing with Hitler’s weapon of choice. Known for pursuing weaponry that could help him win by force at any cost, the German leader surely felt a pang of angst at knowing it had gone into enemy hands.
