While his family might not have thought so when he was growing up, Chris was growing into a very resourceful man, cupping snow in his hands and drinking it after it had melted. He soon adjusted to some of the torments of outdoor living and started to bring practical solutions into his shelter. Nature couldn’t cater to his every need, but he was determined to use what he had to work with all the time.

The makeshift shelter would eventually become somewhat of a well-equipped smallholding. Below the towering boulders lay his National Geographic magazine pages, engineered into a carpet of sorts for his own use. While his home wasn’t as comfortable as yours or mine, it was enough for Christopher, who took extra care when using each page, especially as he had to be overly stealthy to get his hand on them to begin with.
