Making The First Move
Without even being armed with a compass or a map, Christopher followed the summer sun and kept driving until the gas tank ran empty that day. From there, he abandoned his Subaru and kept walking. He later told authorities that he even left the keys on the dashboard, hoping that someone else might get some use out of the car he was still paying off each month. He was no longer going to be making any payments moving forward, however.

All Christopher had in his car was a backpack, a tent and an idea to break from society. This makes his journey all the more incredible, especially as it wasn’t premeditated and he had spent almost no time planning what he was going to do. It may be hard to believe, but with these bare essentials, he survived an entire week on his own, without having to go find additional amenities.
