College Life
Reba attended Southern Oklahoma State university in Durant after completing her high school. She concentrated on education seriously at that time and took music on a lighter note. Only when she was not studying, she would get herself involved in the music. In the beginning, she would continue to sing locally whenever she had the opportunity to do so. Garth Brooks, another yet to be country star was also one of her classmates. In the first place, Reba wanted to be a teacher at the elementary school just like Jacqueline, but a series of events took her on completely another part of her life.

Signing First Music Deal
She had the moment of her life in 1974. During that time, she got a gig at the National Rodeo in Oklahoma city to sing the national anthem. This is how this young lady was discovered by the music sensation Red Steagall. He had a performance listed on the same venue as that of Reba’s on that day and that is how he spotted her. Steagall helped her in starting her career in Nashville. That was just the beginning, She later created demo tape and a year later, she was finally able to sign a deal with Mercury Records.
