I’m Finer Than Frog Hair Split Four Ways
When you ask someone how they are, you generally expect them to respond with “I am fine, thank you”, or “Alright, thanks”. Not Southerners, however, who could easily respond with “I’m finer than frog hair split four ways”! You can imagine that “frog’s hair” would be extremely fine, if they actually had any! The expression is then ironic, and a person might use it if they are actually having a difficult time. The 1856 Diary of C. Davis was the initial mention of the saying.
