Most people felt the effects of the war for many years after everything came to an end. A lot of the “blitz” bombing attacks left British cities destroyed, with libraries suffering devastating blows too. Citizens didn’t give up on their simple pleasures, however.

In an iconic moment often referred to by historians, this photo is a symbol of the American win in the Pacific. The reason it took so long was that there were scores of Japanese troops hidden in the mountain ranges nearby. At the end of the day, persistence prevailed.
