Hitler’s Escape
After coming to grips with the fact that Berlin was certainly going to fall, Hitler mobilized reserve soldiers but decided not to fight himself. Instead, he eloped with his mistress and committed suicide in an underground bunker.
His final act would be the pulling of the trigger, and upon hearing of his death, soldiers caught by the Allies (as with the man pictured above) were seen weeping as the news spread. The reality was slowly starting to sink in.
A Bridge Between America and Japan
The Japanese population had been brainwashed against the Americans, who were portrayed as violent, angry and distrustful. The photo below shows a frightened Japanese woman in a discussion with an American soldier who wanted to help.
After Japan lost the war, American soldiers were put to work in trying to help out civilians caught in between the war. From 1945 to the early 50’s, General Douglas A. MacArthur focused on various military, economic and other reforms to help with this.
