Faith Hill, the artist who later grasped a lot of popularity, was once auditioned to be the backup of McEntire during the tours. She was however not selected for this position. Paula Kay Evans was selected for the same but he died in the plane crash in 1991.

Interview With Larry King
In an interview with Larry King, Faith has stated that she did not get the role because she was not so deserving at that time. It must be surprising to know that she would not have reached the fame where she currently is if she would have been qualified for the position at that time. While we are sorry for the loss of people, we are glad that she is alive.
