In the year 1994, an album named ‘Read my Mind’ was released by her having a song named ‘She Thinks His Name Was John’ which created a huge controversy. It shows the story of a drunk woman who was found to be having AIDS after she had a one-night stand with a man. She had set an example by doing this song that a groundbreaking musician should not be afraid by making social commentary with their art. She did confidently discuss other controversial subjects as well, like neglection of elderly, mercy killing, domestic abuse and illegal immigrants.

Celebrating 20 Years In The Industry

Her 19th Album named ‘Starting Over’ made her career go a little downhill. Though this album did not have any new songs but only a collaboration of her favourite songs. It was a celebration album of her twenty years of being in the industry. She did not really get positive feedback about the album and only one song was able to make it in the top 10. In Spite of the negative criticism, the album was a huge hit. On the contrary, in just one year she was able to turn everything upside down.
