Where To Look For Your Next Treasure

Unsurprisingly, you can find your next financial jackpot in the most unlikely of places: at antique shows and garage sales! Most of the time the items you see here are used, old, and have seen better days. These are usually items that have been sitting around in someone’s home or estate, not knowing that they have a treasure right under their noses!

What To Look For in Your Next Antique Show/Garage Sale

Antique shows and garage sales are different from each other. Usually garage sales are held in someone’s garage (literally) and are old, used items that the family doesn’t use anymore. As for antique shows, most of the items here are from different homes and estates. You’d have more things to discover at an antique show.

Old Games

Those game cartridges that seemed obsolete will have you searching for a whole lot because of the resale value they hold when you sell online on sites such as eBay. A family might be forced to sell some childhood toys when they decide to move so try to snap some up before someone else gets to it. Some games are no longer in production which raises their value even more.

Costume Jewelry

If you see a brooch or necklace that looks like it’s something your Grandma would wear, it’s best to buy it. There is a market for vintage jewelry, as it takes us to another time and place. There is also the factor of great craftsmanship; oftentimes these pieces of jewelry are bespoke or were produced in little quantity which makes it quite rare and one-of-a-kind. There have also been some instances where people unknowingly bought real jewelry at a fraction of its true cost. You’ll know if what you’re holding is real gold and diamonds if you have it appraised.

Furnitures

If you have the space for furniture, this is another awesome buy when you know what you’re looking for. Some furniture is already antique and made of high quality wood. You’ll know if it’s real when it is heavy and feels hollow. Modern-day Ikea products are much lighter. Even if the furniture has some issues or dents, you can upcycle the item and turn it into something else. Let your creativity flow and turn that table, cabinet, or chair into something else entirely. Breathe some new life into it and you can sell it at a much higher cost.

Artwork

How many times have we read a story about a painting that was apparently made by a famous artist that was lying around in some person’s attic or garage? Artwork is another money-making item you can invest in. You must have a keen eye for details and not be swayed by sales talk. Try to discern if that painting sitting in the corner could make you a millionaire.

Clothing

Clothes can be a hit or miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for. There is already a growing market for vintage clothing from the 80s and 90s. Some of these items can be pretty valuable too. Aside from vintage clothing, try to go through children’s clothes as well. They aren’t as worn out as adult clothing and you might across a North Face or Columbia jacket at a bargain price.
